Patricia (Pat) Ewald, 88, of McCarrie Pointe, Baldwinsville, NY passed away on January 4, 2021 after a short illness. Pat was born on March 15, 1932 and raised in East Syracuse, NY. She had a long, prosperous, happy life surrounded by family and friends. She graduated from East Syracuse High School and went on to work for the federal government for over 35 years stating her career at the US Airforce Base at Hancock Field in Syracuse then moved on to the Federal Building before being transferred to the VA Hospital where after 25 years she eventually retired. Pat and her husband John Ewald were married for 63 years prior to his passing in 2015. They lived a full life enjoying their six boys and many grandchildren's sports, dance, and musical activities. They would be seen together in the stands cheering at every event, including little league baseball, hockey, football, track, soccer, lacrosse, dance recitals, and more from the time they were babies right through high school and college. She was an avid SU basketball and football fan and bowled in leagues with her kids and friends. They also loved to vacation with their family, renting cabins in the Adirondacks or on Oneida Lake and later in life travel with their friends to Florida or Myrtle Beach.After retiring, Pat and Jack (as he liked being called) became Florida residents moving to West Palm Beach for a while then landed in The Villages in Ocala, where they spent the next 20 years spending 8 months in in the south and 4 months back in CNY to be with family at their home on the Oswego River or Brennans Beach. She loved having the kids come down to Florida for visits. Pat was an avid crossword puzzler but most of all she loved her beloved companion Mazie, her pet pooch.
Pat was predeceased by her husband, John Ewald; her mom, Agnes Spoor of East Syracuse; her dad, Bud Spoor of Chittenango; sisters, Sandy Spoor of Philadelphia, PA, Karen Livingnale of North Syracuse, Shirley Lewis of Syracuse and her daughter in law, Diane Ewald of Ocala, FL.
She is survived by her six boys and their spouses, David, Dan Ewald and Susan (Chase) Ewald, Doug and Sue (Bunell) Ewald, Donald Ewald and Janie Cummings, Dennis Ewald, and Greg and Tina (Shipley) Ewald; sisters, Judy Spicer and Debbie Ruszcyk; brothers, Terry and David Spoor; and many loving grandchildren, Kelly Ewald, Kristen and Dave Petit, Stephanie and Dave Gullen, Daniel and Rebecca Ewald, Keith and Kristyn Ewald, Brandon and Stephanie Ewald, Emily and Darren McGreevy, Ben, Abby and Laura Ewald, Lisa and Jeff Blake and Matt and Kaitlyn Ewald, Brittany (Nick) Bellucci. Pat was blessed with many great grandchildren who loved her, Tyrone, Kaliya, Lincoln, Haylee, Kayson, Brittany (Big Brit), David, Brittany, Daniel Jr, Maddie, Keegan, Henry, Alaina and Abigal, and Carter and Jayden. Pat also enjoyed her time with her many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at St. Matthew’s Church, East Syracuse by Rev. Stephen P. Wirkes, followed by committal services at Woodlawn Cemetery.
