Eugene K. Sullivan, 97, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully Friday at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. Born to Lawrence and Marion (Windover) Sullivan, Gene was the second oldest of eight children who grew up in the Eastwood area of Syracuse, New York. After graduating high school, Gene enlisted in the US Navy and was a World War II veteran. While serving in the Navy he met Thedis Baun of East Syracuse and they were married in December of 1943. After being discharged from the service, Gene went to work for the railroad as a fireman and engineer for the New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail and Amtrak, he retired after 40 years of service. He was predeceased by his wife, Thedy in 2016, his brothers, Lawrence, Myron, and Wendell (Tom), his sisters, Loretta LaFex and Cele Fletcher.
He is survived by his four children, Bonnie Gugliotto, Gary (Joy), Sullivan, Deborah Jaworski and Barbara (Carl) Gural; grandchildren, Nancy LaDue, Jeff (Sandy) LaDue, Kim (Jason) Edwards, Michael Sullivan, Erin (Rob) Dimitrov, David Jaworski, Carl, Brian (Jessica) Gural, Eric (Emily) Gural and Jamie (Randy) Combs; fifteen great-grandchildren, Gina and Tracie Simcoe, Matthew and Michael LaDue, Henry Jaworski, Hanna, Holly and Will Edwards, Crosley and Fletcher Combs, Dania Sullivan, Leo, Linus and Oliva Gural; three great-great grandchildren, Josh, Montreal (MJ) and Brooklyn; two brothers, John A. and Everett Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the VA Hospital for the many years of care “Red Team” given to everyone.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 3, 2020 11 a.m. at Delaney Greabell Adydan Funeral Home, 241 Kinne Street, East Syracuse. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. There will be no calling hours.
