Elizabeth Angela Letizia Paoff, age 95, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away September 9, 2020. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late John Paoff and mother to John and Joseph.
Born in Syracuse on May 19,1925, she was the daughter of the late Frank Letizia and Elia Suppa Letizia, who immigrated from Italy and built a family of 15 children. Known for her strong work ethic, Elizabeth worked at General Electric until she retired in 1987 and volunteered for many years at the Hallmark Nursing Home.
Elizabeth was devoted to her family and took on the role of matriarch to her immediate and extended family. She lived a long life of selfless dedication caring for others. Elizabeth was a force to be reckoned with, known for her generosity, thoughtfulness, strong will and independence who always let you know where you stood with one facial expression. She welcomed everyone into her home and her heart. Like any great Italian grandmother, Elizabeth spoiled her family with her amazing homemade meatballs and sauce. She loved hosting Sunday dinners and family holidays.
She is survived by her sons, John Paoff (Linda) and Joseph Paoff (Sharman); and her sister, Virginia Dano. Elizabeth had loving grandchildren, Lindy, John Michael (Kera), Maria (Jesse), Krista (Pat), Jo (Steve) and Samantha (Joshua). She also had 11 great-grandchildren, Markayla, Marissa, Erianna, James, Cheyenne, Madelyn, Nicholas, Andrew, Fiona, Blin, and Porter; as well as several special nieces and nephews, including Paulie and Rebecca who assisted in her care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19 at 9 am at St. Matthew’s Church, East Syracuse, with Rev. Stephen P. Wirkes officiating. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at Delaney Greabell Adydan Funeral Home, 241 Kinne Street, East Syracuse.
