Eugene M. Wallis “Marty”, passed away on January 7, 2022 after a brief illness. Born in 1943 to Eugene K. and Jane C. Wallis, he remained a Syracuse native all his life. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Margaret (Wallis) Zuhlke. Marty is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharlene Wallis; and three children, Jayne Richards (Steven), Martin Wallis (Sheila), and Matt Wallis (Mary). Marty enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren, Martin, Tyler, Sharlene, Lindsey, and Elyssa. He is also survived by several brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marty was a long-time employee of CSX Railroad for 42 years. SGT Eugene M. Wallis served in the US Marine Corps Reserves (Semper FI) from 1964 to 1970. Marty stood by the motto: “Once a Marine, always a Marine”. In 1985, Marty became an ASA Umpire for the USA Amateur Softball Umpire Association of America. Marty served as a lifetime 3rd degree brother of the Knights of Columbus for 25 years. Marty’s passion in life was spending time with his family. He enjoyed many hobbies and activities, such as golfing, watching sports, and being a collector.
The Wallis family will receive friends at the Delaney Greabell Adydan Funeral Home, 241 Kinne Street, East Syracuse, New York on Wednesday, January 12 from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm.
