Anna A. Stevenson, 93, of Liverpool, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Upstate University Hospital after a short battle with COVID-19. Anna A. Stevenson, 93, of Liverpool, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Upstate University Hospital after a short battle with COVID-19. Born in Syracuse, New York on June 6, 1927, she was a lifelong resident of East Syracuse before moving to Liverpool four years ago. She was a member of the Fly Road School’s Mothers Club and was active in establishing the Scholarship Fund for the former Fly Road School District. She also served as a committee member. Anna was active in the centralizing of multiple schools into the East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District, which has greatly benefited all of our communities for many generations with better educational opportunities. She was a founding member of the East Syracuse Meals on Wheels Service and also served as the organization’s treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and the East Syracuse Presbyterian Church in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Anna and her family moved outside the village in 1951 and joined Collamer Presbyterian Church and was a member of the congregation that joined the two Collamer Churches that formed the Collamer United Church and built the new building on Fly Road near Collamer Road. Anna was a member of the Christian Women’s Club and the Salvation Army Camp Program for many years. She was also a member of a group of friends who became known as the “Rummikub Ladies Club”. For many years they met most on Sunday afternoons at Burger King on Thompson Road. They dined and played their favorite game for hours on end, enjoying their time together and sometimes entertaining the staff and other diners with the competition. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Stevenson; and her daughter, Laurie Morton.
Anna is survived by her three daughters, Dolores Stevenson, Diane Stevenson and Donna Nitzke; two grandchildren, W. Garrick (Lucy) Nitzke Jr., and Anthony J. Stevenson; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Lambert, Kyle Nitzke, Miranda Nitzke and Alexia Nitzke; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to current restrictions Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Delaney Greabell Adydan Funeral Home, East Syracuse privately for the family followed by burial in Collamer Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in the spring when we can all can be together again safely.
