John J. Usiatynski, 95, a lifelong resident of East Syracuse and patriarch of his family, passed away Friday, Nov. 3rd after a brief illness. A graduate of East Syracuse High School, John served as a First Lt. in the US Army Air Forces during WWII. He flew 105 missions in his P-47, and as a result he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with 14 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Medal for Meritorious Service. When he returned home from the war, he opened a car repair shop, USEE Motors, which is still open today. Also original owner of the famous USEE Farm with his brother Casmir USEE MOTORS now operated by his nephew Ray, whom he loved dearly. John also served as president and member of the ESM School Board for over 10 years including the VFW, American and Lions Club.
John took great pride in serving his country, his community, and most of all his family.
John leaves behind his beautiful wife of 40 years, Ethel, two loving daughters, Judi Jerauld (Lloyd) of Pharr, TX and Susan Revette of Dewitt, his wonderful daughter-in-law Judy Erler Usiatynski of East Syracuse, two stepsons Karl (Mary) and Frank (Rocky) Herbia, many Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren. As well as huge family full of nieces and nephews, all of whom he thought the world of. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Karolina, his eight brothers and sisters and his wonderful son, Stephen Sr. and son-in-law, James Revette.
In his 95 years of life the son of Polish immigrants went on to be become a WWII hero, a pillar of his community, a successful businessman, and a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. The imprint he left on all of us will remain with us all the days of our lives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday Nov.10th, at 11 am at St. Matthew's Church. Calling hours are 4 to 7 pm Thursday, Nov. 9th at Delaney-Greabell-Adydan Funeral Home, 241 Kinne St. East Syracuse. Burial with military honors will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens Dewitt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's honor to, Honor Flight Syracuse, Inc. Honorflightsyracuse.org. the VFW or the American Legion.
