Gregory C. Walker

March 23, 1950 ~ November 8, 2018 (age 68)

Gregory Crossman Walker, 68 of Minoa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday November 8th at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones.

He was born March 23rd, 1950 in Syracuse to Elisabeth (Crossman) Brady and William Walker. He attended St. Matthew’s School in East Syracuse and later graduated from Jamesville-Dewitt High School in 1968. He worked for Conrail in the early 1970’s as a brakeman and conductor, and later opened several of his own businesses throughout CNY. He always loved automobiles, and went on to a position at Nye Ford in Oneida as a sales manager in the 1990’s. Post-retirement he worked at the Syracuse Airport to keep himself busy, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Greg had many things he loved about life. Spending time with his family and friends was always at the top of that list. Learning he was becoming a grandfather for the first time filled him with incredible joy in his last few months.  As a boy and continuing throughout his entire life he cherished the time he spent at the Greiner’s Hunting Lodge in the Adirondacks. Always an avid golfer, he spent countless spring, summer, and fall days playing in leagues at Town Isle (now Old Oak) golf course in Kirkville. Greg had many pets and was a huge animal lover, especially of dogs. He loved listening to oldies music and especially to his favorite band Dan Elliot and the Monterays. He had a very entrepreneurial spirit and went into all sorts of different business ventures over the years. Being his own boss was always how he wanted to live his life.

Early in life Greg was presented with significant obstacles, and with the help of a wonderful family and caring friends he overcame them all. He had a terrific sense of humor and genuinely enjoyed people. He had a huge heart and was incredibly compassionate and always considered everyone else’s wellbeing before his own. He was truly a one of a kind man, and he will always be very greatly missed.  He was predeceased by his parents Elisabeth Brady and William Walker, his beloved aunt, Rita Keller of East Syracuse, NY, and brother Joey (Lori) Brady of Liverpool, NY.

Greg is survived by his wife Patti Cooper Walker of Minoa, NY; children, Gregory J (Emily) Walker of Amherst, NY, Ashley M Walker of Minoa NY, Danielle L Walker of St. Petersburg, FL; siblings Robert (Rosemary) Walker of Cicero, NY, Richard Walker of East Syracuse, NY and Barbara Brady of Syracuse, NY; his aunt,  Janet (Crossman) Welch of Syracuse, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
