Alice Mae Wozella (Sauer) died peacefully on Saturday morning, October 13th, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Smithfield, VA. Alice was born on July 6, 1919 in Council Bluffs Iowa to Walter and Minnie Almeda Hodgson.
When she was a child, Alice moved with her immediate family from Iowa to upstate New York and later graduated from Liverpool schools. She married Norman Sauer in 1938 and settled in East Syracuse where she and Norman raised their 5 children. Norman passed away in 1977 and in 1983 She married Anthony Wozella, Anthony passed away in 2004 and in 2006, Alice moved to Smithfield to be near her daughter JoAnn.
Alice’s was a life well-lived. She was happiest when she was around her family and friends, telling and listening to jokes and stories, reminiscing, and celebrating holidays. She loved to laugh. She also loved living in East Syracuse. During her years there she was a member of the Fireman’s Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star and she was very active in village politics. We will all miss Grammy Alice. She was predeceased by her husbands, Norman J. Sauer, Sr. and Anthony Wozella and by her son, Jeffrey Steven Sauer
She is survived by her children, JoAnn (Robert) Kirk, Norman (Eileen) Sauer, Martin (Sandy) Sauer, and Randy (Carol) Sauer; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held in Collamer Cemetery. Delaney Greabell Adydan Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
